A memorial service celebrating the life of Jimmie Arthur Coapland is scheduled for Thursday, October 24, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at Foundry United Methodist Church, 8350 Jones Road in Houston. Jim died peacefully at home in Houston on Monday, October 21, 2013 following a lengthy illness.

Born in Marlow, Oklahoma on May 22, 1934 to Raymond and Viola Coapland, Jim was a 1952 graduate of Marlow High School where he played for the Outlaw football team. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy and later attended the University of Central Oklahoma. While there, he married Linda Gay Brazil on October 19, 1962. Jim enjoyed a successful career in the oil business including posts in Libya, Ghana, and Nigeria before moving to Houston in 1977. Always a hard worker, Jim ran several small businesses after retiring from the oil business.

Jim was a member of Foundry United Methodist Church in Houston and a long-time volunteer with Meals on Wheels. He was also an active member of the Woodwind Lakes Grounds Committee. He took great pride in caring for his family and friends and sponsored several family members and friends in their pursuit of a college education.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Syble McGuire, two nephews, and dear friends, Zackie Walters and Jim Gentry.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, son Zackie Coapland, daughter Jill Zollman, and his beloved granddaughter, Brittyn Gomez, all of Houston. He will be greatly missed by his sister, Betty Whittington of Oklahoma City, numerous nieces and nephews, an uncle, Bill Hale of Marlow, OK and many special cousins, in-laws, and friends.
